Memory bubbles

Since 2011, the Office has been offering middle school students and out-of-school youth of equivalent level to participate in a comic book contest. The author (s) must create a comic book whose theme relates to the memories of ordinary, anonymous fighters.

History Festival "War or Peace. Crossroads of history 1918 | 2018"
from 17 to 21 October

Die Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung /bpb is planning a four-day history festival together with the Maxim Gorki theater in 2018 (expected to be 17.-21.10.2018). The occasion is the 100th.commemoration of the end of the First World War. This event will be illuminated from different perspectives and its meaning for the here and now will be discussed.

Football and commemoration
16 November
On the initiative of the Volksbund a memorial game will be held on 16/11/2018 by youth teams of Liverpool FC and the Hertha BSC, which, in the context of other international events, will build a bridge between the British-French Rememberance Day / Jour d'Armistice and the German Memorial Day.

1918 - 2018 - 2118 is a German-French-Hungarian exchange about past, present and future. The focus will be on discussing the current conflicts and how wars and their effects can be counteracted. In three phases the participants will exchange, get to know each other and get closer. In addition to the content, they will also deal with the countries and cities in which they are guests.

Former projects
"MIX'ART, a shared memory and future - Cross-border participatory art workshops at Hartmannswillerkopf"
Nearly 200 students from both sides of the Rhine have been working since September with a group of street art artists to create 34 canvases on the theme of the Great War and peace. Objective: to work together, in both languages, and to consolidate Franco-German friendship. The paintings are on display at the Historial du Hartmannswillerkopf.

Impressions from the project 100 years after World War I
During the project, 18 students from the Hückelhoven High School visited students from the Köprüler Anadolu High School in Vezirköprü (Samsun) and worked together on their bilingual exhibition.

First World War Centenary Battlefield Tours Programme

Since 2014, the UCL Institute of Education has been conducting the highly successful "Centenary Battlefield Tours Program" of the First World War. This educational program brings students and teachers from every secondary school (11-18 years) in England on a four-day tour to the battlefields of the Western Front. To date, they have worked with more than 1,600 schools across England, visiting the battlefields with nearly 5,000 teachers and students.

Student competition: "together - gemeinsam!"

Never So Innocent called on young people aged 9 to 16 from the UK and Germany to write a poem or song together or independently, or to make a work of art about the First World War, thus embracing messages of hope and unity create.
