In Palermo, Atelier Panormos - La Bottega offers transdisciplinary residencies for artists and researchers, working between Italy - specifically Sicily and the city of Palermo - France and Germany. The programm targets projects which build bridges between the three countries. The residencies have a maximal length of 3 months and will take place between September 4, 2023, and December 22, 2023.


The themes of this call for projects is the border/threshold.


Atelier Panormos – La Bottega is a residency programme run by the French-German cultural institute KULTUR ENSEMBLE Palermo. The Goethe-Institut and Institut français, both of which have been working at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa since 2000, are the organizing structures of this new cultural institute. The programme is supported by the French-German Youth Office (FGYO).


At the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, a former industrial site transformed into a space of cultural production, the residents will have access to a shared working space and the opportunity to immerse themselves in a dense network of local and international cultural actors and institutions.



APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS


  • Eligible fields:  fine arts, performing arts, literature, cinema, dance, theatre, music, art aesthetics, art history, art philosophy, humanities and social sciences

  • International component, involving France and/or Germany and Italy

  • Project linked the theme of the Border and/or Threshold

  • Age under 30 at the time of application

  • Availability to participate in at least two educational activities (discussion, workshop etc.) with schools and the University of Palermo

  • Be free of any other professional commitment during the length of the residency

  • Be a French or German citizen, or resident in France or Germany for at least the last 5 years

The jury reserves itself the right to take into consideration applications not meeting all requirements, under certain circumstances (project quality, strong bonds with the countries supporting the residency programm).

  • Individual applications

  • French-German duo-applications (of which one part is strongly linked to France, the other part to Germany)

THE RESIDENCY INCLUDES


  • One return journey between the residents’ home and Palermo

  • A grant of 1500€ per person per month, for a duration of 3 months

  • Accomodation at Palazzo Butera, with access to a kitchen shared with other residents, or other suitable accomodation

  • Access to a shared working space at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa. Depending on the needs and availability, provision of technical material from the Institut français and the Goethe-Institut. The technical material covers basic technical needs (sound, videoprojector). Any additional and specific technical needs will have to be decided in accordance with the residency programme.

  • A budget up to a maximal amount of 1000€, for additional expenses of the project (small material, service provision etc.). The budget and elegible expenses underly the institutes’ scrutiny.

  • Logistic and linguistic support in making contacts with local actors and institutions

The programme does not require a finished production or work restitution at the end of the residency. If the resident wishes to present her/his work during/at the end of the residency, the terms will be decided in accordance with the residency programme.

  • Curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages) with all contact information and birth date

  • Project description (max. 3 pages). The proposal does not have to be final and can evolve in the course of the residency. An English version of the project description is required.

  • Portfolio (max. 10 pages) presenting the applicant’s artistic practice or academic research

  • Reference letter if available

The applications must submitted in French or German by 23:59 pm on February 28, 2023, to the email address kulturensemblepalermo2023@gmail.com. In the absence of an English version of the project description, the application will be considered ineligible.



TERMS OF SELECTION PROCESS


The French-German Cultural Institute KULTUR ENSEMBLE carries out an internal pre-selection. The pre-selected applicants will be invited to an online meeting with those in charge of the residency programme. The pre-selected applications will then be presented to an Italian-French-German jury of qualified professionals, who will decide on the grants’ attribution. The selected residents will be informed via email. The names of the jury members and the chosen projects will be published in April on the websites of the Goethe-Insitut Palermo and the Institut français Palermo.
