Educ’ARTE

The FGYO supports the Educ’ARTE project for teachers and school pupils. Educ’ARTE is a Franco-German video-on-demand service featuring more than 600 ARTE broadcasts. All of the documentaries, magazines and animated films it includes offer added educational value and are available in German and French.

Part of the cooperation between the FGYO and Educ’ARTE also includes the development of audiovisual teaching materials for French instruction in Germany and German instruction in France. With Inter@ctions, the FGYO offers interactive learning modules with Franco-German activities to accompany some of the content available on the platform. ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ – a web series on pop culture, science and science fiction

‘Maybe Tomorrow’ is a 6-part web series dedicated to pop culture, science and science fiction. The series by two YouTubers – Phil Hauser (Germany) and Charlie Danger (France) – is produced by StringTheory and broadcast on Arte Future. You will find more information here.
 

Youth newspaper: ‘EXTRA’

‘EXTRA’ is a trilingual youth newspaper that provides information on the environment, culture and politics. The special thing about it: All of the topics are examined by an editorial team of university students and school pupils from Metz, Saarbrücken or Esch-sur-Alzet. The young people work together, reporting on current topics from the Saarland/Lorraine/Luxembourg border region.

The articles are printed by three regional newspapers, Saarbrücker Zeitung, Le Républicain Lorrain and Tageblatt, and published as a supplement to the weekend edition on the four annual publication dates of the youth newspaper.

Gamescom with SpielFabrique

SpielFabrique and the FGYO invite young people from Germany and France to Gamescom for a look behind the scenes of the international industry for computer and video gaming. At the world’s largest trade fair for gaming, participants learn more about career opportunities in game development, as well as about Franco-German cooperation in the cultural and creative sectors.

Film

Semaine de la Critique at the Canne Film Festival

In cooperation with Semaine de la Critique, the FGYO organises Franco-German workshops for school pupils from Germany and France. In this workshop, young people from different backgrounds spend several days viewing short films and feature films from the official film competition. Under the guidance of film critics and journalists, the participants complete cinema-related seminars and write their own film reviews – creating an unforgettable and lasting intercultural experience.

French Film Week Berlin

The FGYO has been a partner of French Film Week  Berlin since 2017. The Film Week is distinguished by a particularly high-quality and up-to-date programme of French and francophone cinema. 
The wide-ranging selection attracts young people to the cinemas to create an atmosphere of delightful, emotional and insightful encounters with the neighbouring country. French Film Week also brings together cinema operators, teachers, educational specialists, directors and artists from Germany and France. 
Every year, the FGYO contributes to intercultural exchange and cross-border media education with thematic workshops for school pupils. 
 

French Film Days in Tübingen/Stuttgart

The FGYO has been a partner of the International Festival of Francophone Films in Tübingen (French Film Festival Tübingen) since 2006. The festival is distinguished by a broad and multifaceted selection of films from the world of French cinema.

The aim of the cooperation is to promote intercultural dialogue between young people from Germany and France, and to strengthen interest in French-language cinema in the region. 

Together with the Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg and UniFrance, since 2016 the FGYO has shared in the EUR 21,000 Film Distribution Advancement Award.
 

International Film Festival in Braunschweig

Since 2007, the FGYO has supported the Cinema Prize at the Braunschweig International Film Festival. The prize is awarded by a jury of five young people from Germany and France. It is presented for a German- or French-language début film. 

The aim of the KINEMA Prize is 

  • to promote dialogue among young cinephiles from Germany and France,
  • to foster mutual interest in the film culture of the respective partner country,                                           
  • to support young directors and to bring them into dialogue with young people from both countries.

The KINEMA Prize is funded by the German State of Lower Saxony, the FGYO, the Normandy region and Pôle Image Haute-Normandie.
 

Marseille International Film Festival

Thanks to a cooperation with the International Film Festival in Braunschweig and the Academic Cultural Action Delegation (DAAC) of the headmaster of Académie Aix-Marseille, grammar-school pupils from Germany can take part in the Marseille International Film Festival (FID) with the support of the FGYO. The FID offers a carefully curated programme of 150 films for nearly 25,000 viewers in cinemas, theatres, libraries, art galleries and lecture halls. 

 

Theatre, art, literature and music

Future cultures / Cultures d’avenir 

Selected up-and-coming artists based in Germany, France and Spain meet in Berlin, Paris and Barcelona and work together in workshops. Participants network with one another and create synergies, all with the support of mentors.

Cultures d’avenir is carried out together with the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, the Centre de Cultura Contemporània in Barcelona and with the support of the Allianz Foundation and the FGYO.

Georges Arthur Goldschmidt Programme

The Georges Arthur Goldschmidt Programme is designed for young translators of literary works from Germany, France and Switzerland. It gives participants an opportunity to get acquainted with the neighbouring country’s publishing industry. The young people work together as Franco-German translators on their own projects in workshops and under the guidance of experienced professionals.

The programme is carried out by the FGYO, in cooperation with the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Bureau international de l'édition française (BIEF) and Pro Helvetia.

 

Paris-Frankfurt Fellowship for young professionals from the book trade and publishing industry

For two weeks, participants have an opportunity to pursue training and make important professional contacts in publishing houses, booksellers and distribution centres in Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Strasbourg and Paris.

The Paris-Frankfurt Fellowship is an initiative of the FGYO and its cooperation partners, the International Business Offices of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Pro Helvetia and the Bureau international de l'édition française (BIEF).

 

Rock en Seine

The FGYO is a partner of the annual Rock en Seine open-air festival. In cooperation with the daily newspaper Libération, the FGYO has already participated in discussions on youth-related topics at the festival's ‘Let's Talk Stage’. 
 

Fusion Concept Festival

For more than 10 years, the FGYO has been a partner in the Fusion Concept Festival in Paris. With the support of this Hip-Hop Festival, the FGYO seeks to strengthen the exchange of artistic forms of expression, thereby contributing towards overcoming language and cultural barriers. The FGYO organises, among other things, discussion sessions, residency programmes and workshops on intercultural dialogue through dance. 

 

Longevity Festival

The Longevity Festival in Strasbourg is an initiative by the Longevity association of the same name and seeks to promote the culture of electronic music in Germany and France and make it accessible to all people. The FGYO has supported this Franco-German festival from the outset.  

 

NABI: Musical theatre for peace 

The NABI Festival (Korean for ‘butterfly’) is a project of the French association Patrimoine et Histoire and Momo e. V. It celebrates peace and friendship in Europe – and in 2022 the 150th anniversary of the existence of Fort Rapp in Reichstett. The festival features dance, theatre and musical performances as well as stage presentations. It is held under the auspices of the European Parliament and is supported by the FGYO.

 

Online art magazine Nautile: Creativity without limits

Individuals, school pupils, students, artists and teachers from Germany, France and other European countries can express themselves individually on Nautile. Whether musical pieces, songs, videos, photos, drawings, images, texts, poems, plays or recipes – everything is welcome! 

Nautile is a joint project of the Franco-German University (DFH), the Franco-German Cultural Council (DFKR)ARTE and the FGYO. It came into being during the coronavirus crisis and was originally conceived of as a virtual space in which to share experiences and impressions in a creative way during the pandemic. Since May 2020, Nautile has been publicly accessible and has become much more than just a testimony to the pandemic. 

 

Young Euro Classic

Year after year, the Young Euro Classic Festival brings together the best youth orchestras from around the world in Berlin, including 100 young musicians from Germany and France. 

The focus of the  FGYO’s partnership with Young Euro Classic is very much on the plan to resume international youth encounters initiated by the FGYO in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. 

 

Starke Stücke

The international theatre festival ‘Starke Stücke’ [‘Powerful Pieces’] has been presenting versatile theatre programmes for young audiences in Germany’s Rhine-Main region since 1994. The festival is held in a variety of venues including community centres and youth clubs, schools and theatres. Since 2009, it has been held under the patronage of the KulturRegion FrankfurtRheinMain, which co-organises the project.

As a long-standing partner of ‘Starke Stücke’, the FGYO seeks to promote dialogue between young people from Germany and France, and to awaken their interest in theatre art and dramaturgy. After all, theatre offers an opportunity to overcome boundaries and barriers, and to build bridges between different cultures.
 

Land of fairy tales: Seeking common roots through fairy tales and legends

The FGYO provides support to the Franco-German ‘Märchenland’ [‘Land of fairy tales’] festival. Fairy tale sessions are hosted under the guidance of professional storytellers and read aloud by politicians. From ‘narrative pantomime’ (theatrical representation of a fairy tale) to advanced training in storytelling, from Kamishibai readings to workshops: At Märchenland, all forms of fairy tale have their place. 
Children from Germany and France go on a fairytale journey of discovery for nearly 2 weeks, during which they get acquainted with the culture and language of the neighbouring country. The highlight of the multi-day festival is a concluding ceremony at held at Europa-Park Rust. 

Political education and democracy

The FGYO and the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) jointly organise a variety of events and projects designed to promote an understanding of democracy on the part of youth from Germany and Europe.
 

Sports

FGYO supports the Olympics

The 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Paris. To help rekindle enthusiasm for the Olympics, the FGYO promotes Franco-German projects with a focus on these major events. As part of a special invitation to tender, the FGYO is working with Deutsche Sportjugend (dsj) and the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF).

Ecology and sustainability

The Franco-German guideline ‘The ecological transformation in intercultural youth encounters’ was drawn up in cooperation with the Naturfreundejugend Deutschland and La Ligue de l'enseignement from France. It helps organisations and partners make environmentally friendly exchange projects even more environmentally friendly.

Blaues Heft. Interdisciplinary Franco-German project to raise awareness of environmental issues, interculturality, mobility and engagement

As part of the cooperation with the City of Lille and the Conseil d’Architecture, d’Urbanisme et de l’Environnement (CAUE) du Nord, the Goethe-Institut Lille is continuing the ‘Blaues Heft’ campaign begun in 2013 with the support of the Conseil régional Hauts-de-France. As part of this project, young people deal with questions relating to sustainable urban planning and development as well as the quality of life in the urban setting.

For the third year in a row, pupils in the 12th grade of the Lise-Meitner-Gesamtschule in Cologne-Porz and the Lycée Pasteur in Lille are jointly publishing a ‘Blue Booklet’ [‘Blaues Heft’] on the S-PASS Territoires Internet platform of the CAUE du Nord. This edition deals with water and the structural transformation.
